Description
“Waiting in the Wings” a textured ballerina painting, is about holding back, but being fully ready.
This 36″ x 36″ mixed media piece combines acrylic paint, Sharpie and an unexpected sculptural material: washcloths soaked in plaster casting compound… the kind used to make medical casts to form a layered tutu which creates delicate layers and shadows. Those forms give the piece an organic, almost skeletal depth… like time, memory and protection are built right into the surface.
The female figure is strong, stylized, and slightly obscured… surrounded by neutrals and scribbled textures. There’s energy in the silence. The kind of confidence that doesn’t need a stage to know it belongs on one. Her posture is calm but deliberate, like she knows her cue is coming… and she’s going to be ready.
This painting is as much about healing as it is about becoming. The materials carry story. The body holds space. The title says the rest.
